FORAGE CACTUS COMBINED WITH DIFFERENT SILAGES AS DIETS FOR LACTATING RED SINDHI COWS

چکیده
ABSTRACT Forage cactus (Opuntia ficus-indica Mill) is an important forage resource in the Northeast region of Brazil due to its adaptation edaphoclimatic conditions region, mainly drought periods. The objective this work was assess effects diets with combined different sources fibers on dry matter and water intakes, digestibility, microbial protein production, balance nitrogen compounds, performance Red Sindhi cows Semiarid Brazil. silages used were prepared from plants Atriplex nummularia Lindi., Sorghum bicolor (L.) They included cactus-based at a roughage concentrate ratio 58:42. distributed 4×4 double Latin square design 12 days for each period. Performance of lactating dairy cows fed alfalfa or red clover silage as the sole forage.
Three Latin square trials, with 20 (two trials) or 24 (one trial) multiparous lactating Holstein cows (four in each trial with ruminal cannulae), compared the feeding value of red clover and alfalfa silages harvested over 3 yr. Overall, the forages contained similar amounts of neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber; however, red clover silage contained more hemicellulose, less ash and...
متن کاملInteractions between forage and wet corn gluten feed as sources of fiber in diets for lactating dairy cows.
Twelve early lactation Holstein cows (4 fistulated) were used in replicated 4x4 Latin squares with 4-wk periods to determine the effective neutral detergent fiber (NDF) content of wet corn gluten feed and to measure the effect of forage particle size on ruminal mat consistency and passage rate of wet corn gluten feed. Diets were 1) 23.3% NDF (17.4 percentage units of NDF from alfalfa silage), 2...
متن کاملRyegrass or alfalfa silage as the dietary forage for lactating dairy cows.
Renewed interest exists in using grass forages to dilute the higher crude protein (CP) and lower digestible fiber present in legumes fed to lactating dairy cows. A 3 x 3 Latin square feeding study with 4-wk periods was conducted with 24 Holstein cows to compare ryegrass silage, either untreated control or macerated (intensively conditioned) before ensiling, with alfalfa silage as the sole dieta...

In Exp. 1, 31, 24, and 17 mature, pregnant Simmental x Angus cows (initial BW = 662.0 +/- 10.4 kg) in each of 3 yr were used to determine the efficacy of stockpiled orchardgrass, limit-fed corn, or ad libitum hay for maintaining cows in mid- to late gestation, respectively. In Exp. 2, 24 mature, pregnant crossbred cows (initial BW = 677.7 +/- 9.4 kg) per treatment in each of 3 yr were used to d...
متن کاملSubstitution of neutral detergent fiber from forage with neutral detergent fiber from by-products in the diets of lactating cows.
Four lactating dairy cows that were ruminally and duodenally cannulated were used in an experiment with a 4 x 4 Latin square design to determine the effects of the substitution of neutral detergent fiber (NDF) from forage with NDF from wheat middlings, corn gluten feed, or a blend of distillers dried grains and hominy. Dietary crude protein and NDF averaged 18 and 31%, respectively, for the die...
